Floral Expo
(March 2019)
I had the opportunity alongside two other Ferris students to not only attend, but volunteer at the Michigan Floral Association Expo and competition. This was a neat opportunity to learn how to create beautiful but branded bouquets, use floral as a medium, and learn how to put your own unique mark on the everyday bouquets you see. We worked with Garrett (shown in video) as he and Matt both taught Keri and I how to make this piece with the acrylics! We had never worked with such material before but it is a new skill I now have. The piece itself took 7 hours to create as far as the heating and pinching is concerned but we collected 23 community service hours over the weekend!
ComicCon
(November 2018)
Part of my Events Management class allowed us to work an event at the DeVos Place in Grand Rapids, November 2018. With this experience however it was more of an eye opening one toward seeking risks and noticing the little things. This event is one where individuals arrive in large costumes, you cannot tell who is who and the security was low. All of the exhibition halls were open to one another with aisles so attendees can get autographs, but with Grand Rapids being a large city where a ton can happen, there were precautions that should have been put in place.
